And you thought you were bad
January 26th, 2008
I’d like you to look at the calendar, or at the date just above this line of text, and notice that as I write this it is exactly one month and one day past Christmas. Keep that in mind as I admit to you that we just today took down all the ornaments and decorations and the tree and put them away. It’s not just that we were enjoying how warm and cozy the lit-up tree made the living room seem; it’s also that Troy and I both are prone to look at something non-urgent that needs to be done and think, “Eh. We’ll do it tomorrow,” and then go out for coffee/watch another episode of This Old House/make cookies.

I just boxed the last of my decorations two days ago.
AND…My tree is still in the front yard.
From “White Christmas” to “White Trash” it seems…
Gosh our tree was down before New Years, but our lights are still up outside as it has been way to cold to climb up on the roof and take them off. I also have a spiral tree up outside. Don’t feel bad.
Got my new site up, blog site.
I’m the same way. We moved into this house back in November and I am just putting some boxes away. Finally.
My husand and I love watching DVD series – that’s our addiction!
If Graham did not have a birthday on December 29th…we would probably still have our ornaments up.
:)
Man, I’d fit right in.
Since Christmas, we’ve known (actually, technically we’ve known since 01/01/07) that we’d need to fill out the claims for our FSA reimbursement plan. It’s due Feb. 14th. You know what I’ll be doing on the 13th, around 10 pm. *sigh*
I say that you can explain it away by saying you were keeping them up to celebrate ‘Australia Day’. I know it’s not an excuse that really flies in the USA, but one can only try.
Happy Aussie Day Bethany….I am totally bringing those violet crumbles with me in May.
p.s. I just noticed the 7 days banner to the right. That’s going in my diary when I get back to work on Tuesday.
There’s no set date for when you MUST take your tree down. The way I see it…if the first day of summer starts and your tree is put away, you’ve done good. :)
My Christmas “stuff” just got put away this past Wednesday. You’re not alone!! :)
You took the tree down too EARLY! In college, we started a tradition of leaving the tree up (without the ornaments, but kept the lights) until Valentine’s day. Then each of the roomies (and our whacky neighbor guys) put stuff on & under the tree for each other. I’m sure you can surmise that what we put on the tree in college might be a *tad* inappropriate for our lifestyles today…especially for those out there with kids…but you can see how this tradition can turn into something fun for the whole family. Make ornaments out of those little candy hearts, make little hearts out of pipe cleaners, put valentine’s cards to each other in the branches…whatever floats your boat! (one of the guys put those little boxes of Whitman’s Samplers in the tree one year…and that was a huge hit!) Who says a tree can’t be used for more than just Christmas?!?!?! I LOVE the glow of a lit tree!
I actually miss having my Christmas tree up, with the lights and the decorations. It was festive and fun to come home to that in the dreariness of winter. I was actually toying with pulling it out again, but thought I’d be perceived as an idiot (not that it would be the first time)
I like Deborah’s idea…I may need to do that next year.
I’d like to be able to say I was waiting for my Christmas Swap ornament to arrive, but it’d be closer to the truth to admit that I have the same issues with “escapism” as you and Troy.
We took ours down Monday (almost a week ago now).
Beat you, beat you…nanny, nanny, boo, boo!
I still have the tree, the lights in the windows, the cards on the wall, and the few little things around. I know I should out them away but, I just don’t want to. Maybe if I plug the lights in I’ll stop feeling so down.
Welllll, ours is still up. JUDGE ME. I deserve it.
Ours is still up too. My husband keeps hinting that I should start taking it down, so the ornaments are slowing coming off today, but I like the lights on the tree, they relax me. And I sort of like how the furniture is arranged now, so I don’t know what we will put in the big hole where the tree was…maybe I should just put a big wad of lights there! ;)
I just learned from the news that the Denver City and County Building took their lights down yesterday…so everyone is ok. If the government can’t get ‘em down quickly, then nobody else should feel obligated. :-)
