Christmas spirit
December 2nd, 2007
Even though I didn’t participate in National Blog Posting Month (aka NaBloPoMo) in November, I think this is a great idea:
I’ve had a hectic fall, what with all the traveling and more traveling and the weddings and the wedding-cake-making. It’s December and I have barely even started thinking about Christmas, let alone getting cards sent or presents purchased. I find that the earlier the secular world starts celebrating* the holidays, the Grinchier I feel about all the decorating and gift-exchanging. Every year I am more tempted to call a halt to everything but Christmas carols, Advent services, and Christmas-Eve and Christmas-morning worship.
But I won’t. Because I really do love making and sending cards, and I love finding meaningful gifts for my friends and family and imagining their delight when they receive a Christmas package from us. It just takes me a while to get into the spirit of things.
This year, I decided to jump-start my Christmas spirit by sending a gift to my friend Heather at Oh My Stinkin’ Heck. Some of you might know OMSH as the guru of the fantastic WordPress Wednesdays, or you might know her as the administrator of the fun Color Me Happy Swaparooni group on Flickr. I wanted to find a way to thank her for all the time she volunteers to her readers to make their blogs prettier and more functional, and matching up swap partners. So I totally stole her copyrighted OMSH monsters to paint her a mug.
I’m starting to feel more Christmas-y already.
Edited to add: In case you’re wondering how the Etsy shop is going, all five sets of Gumball magnets got purchased already! So I put up five more sets. Thank you for your purchases! :-)
*Celebrating = putting Christmas-themed displays up in the stores with the intent of selling even MORE crap in this season of giving, wouldn’t want to forget a gift for your second cousin’s dog or that neighbor whose name you can never remember but you wave at from the driveway occasionally, ho ho ho!

Good luck with the present shopping and everything. At least you have a lot of time. Chanukah starts this Tuesday night. Man I need to find our things and get them out ASAP.
You are just too talented. As I mentioned on Heather’s blog I absolutely love the mug you made. Excellent job :)
Happy Holidays!
Thanks! I know, Hanukkah is early this year. Good luck with your shopping, too.

I love my mug. I won’t even put it in the dishwasher because I find it holds cold things as well as hot things JUST FINE…so why wash it when I can go from coffee to tea without dirtying another cup?!
I love handmade and I agree about the whole retail merchandising for Christmas extravaganza. At walk*mart they had Christmas items stocked two aisles over from Halloween.
Emelie said, “Mom, what about Thanksgiving?” I said, “Oh darlin’ that doesn’t make them enough money to fuss over.”
She rolled her eyes and said, “Stuuuupid.”
*sigh*
I love the Christmas season, but not the rush. Jeff and I ARE doing it different this year and we’re going to slowly get to where we would like to be as a family this season. Serving, not taking.
But again - thanks for the mug. It was such a surprise and well, I LERV IT MUCHO!

It is the best mug!
Also, I’m with you and kerflop. Three cheers for less posting! Now if only I could stop composing posts in my head all day long.
