crafty catch-up
December 30th, 2008
This was a custom order for the fabulous OneScrappyGal. And I am a baaaaad etsy shop owner because I’ve had this bowl sitting in my house for, um, weeks now. I sort of, uh, forgot it was here? What with being sick and Christmas and all, it slipped my mind till I found these photos today. I’m very sorry about that.
The good news is, the order is now up in my shop whenever you’re ready, Aileen. No rush!
One of my lovely readers (Hi Jen!) emailed me in early December to ask if I would be willing to do a custom pottery order for her. Jen’s best friend Carrie is also a reader of my blog and a fan of my dotty painting style. Carrie was due with her first baby, a girl, right around Christmas. Jen asked if I’d paint matching dishes for them. I was so tickled to be asked, that of course I said yes! These were really fun to paint. I was glad to hear from Jen that Carrie loved them AND her baby girl was safely delivered the day after she got these gifts. Congratulations, Carrie! Welcome to the world, Avery!
Oh look, some crocheting! This is a coffee-cup sleeve I made for my loyal customer Michelle, delivered just in time for Christmas. I had some fun with this one, and made it with a little ribbing around the top and bottom, like—get it?!—a sleeve cuff.
Actually, I’ve been crocheting up a storm this month. Even though I’ve been sick for much of December my hooks have been flying, what with all the snowball and coffee-sleeve orders I’ve had. I really had fun making all those little things this month, but I think I need to put a limit on the custom orders in December. I did so much crocheting for other people that I barely had time to make my own gifts! Oh well, lesson learned.
A few weeks before Christmas, I idly asked Annalie what she thought she’d like to get Daddy for a present. "I know!" Annalie immediately replied. "I can get him a red Nebraska plate or bowl because Daddy loves Nebraska football!" Impressed, I told her I thought that was a great idea, and asked if she wanted to buy one or paint one. She wanted to paint one, of course.
Annalie painted the rim and the center, and wrote around the edge with a No.2 pencil, which burns off in the kiln. I painted over the pencilled letters exactly as they were. Annalie went crazy with her own design on the back. I loved the final result, and Annalie was pretty proud of it too.

Bethany, between your awesome crafts and Annalie’s sweet smiles, I always leave your blog feeling happier from the visit! Thank you and I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year. :O)
I love the coffee cup sleeve/cuff! Good idea.
And the dottery is lovely, as usual.
One of these days, we’ll paint some pottery together!
I love polka dots and I would love, love, love to know how to make such cute china as you make!!!!!
Oh I love all your wonderful craftiness. It really is too bad we live so far away from each other, I need a co-crafter around here. Some days are just meant to craft with someone else.
I love the dots, love them! And your Coffee sleeves are great!
And Annalie, how sweet you are to think of just the perfect gift for Daddy.
Kaylie used to do her ‘E’s the same way.
Beautiful creations, as usual.
I’m a big fan of painting pottery. The designs you used look really cute.
Go Corn Huskers!
I love Annalie’s plate, it’s so cute and it will probably be a memory item for years to come.
My friend had that same problem with making things in November/December. A little different than your situation, but she introduced pies at her bakery (Retro Bakery) this fall and had so many orders it was hard to make pies for her family’s celebrations. I guess it’s good when you have the opportunity to make money doing something you enjoy though! :-)
Thanks for the shout out Bethany!
The dotty pottery i ordered came out awesome, i may even come back for a mug for myself :)
Those are all beautiful. Annalie is brilliant in remembering that Nebraska rules (at least for Troy). :) Very nice.
YAY!!
I love it!! Thank you SOOOOO much!
Thank you so much for painting the mug and bowl for me and Avery!!! I love both of them!!! I love Annalie’s painting as well, and can’t wait to do fun stuff like that with Avery when she gets older!!!
I love all the craftiness. You’ve been making some cute stuff! I fell into the custom order trap myself. I’m still trying to dig myself out of a pile of orders, haha. This leads to one of my biggest New Year’s Resolutions – GET ORGANIZED.
