Crafty? Me?
December 17th, 2007
I’ve never really considered myself a crafty person. I don’t sew or make hand-stamped cards or create sure-to-be-treasured scrapbooks. I have strung beads on lanyards to make bracelets at camp, but I don’t think that counts as jewelry-making. A friend asked me a while ago what my art background was, and I blinked stupidly for a second, processing the fact that someone thought I had an “art background”. I told her that I really didn’t have one, unless she counted one semester of pottery in high school.
I have always liked to draw, though I don’t consider myself anything but average at it. I do, as you might know, crochet. And paint pottery. I occasionally make photo cards, and lately I’ve been making magnets. In the two months this blog been around, I’ve written five posts categorized artsy-crafty—better make that six, counting this one. For that matter, I have an Etsy shop. On Etsy. You know, the online marketplace for all things handmade.™
Hmm. I think maybe I need to start thinking of myself as crafty. Because you know what? I have photos of not one but two crafts for you today. Here is the first one:
It’s only a sneak peek, though, because I’m mailing it today to OneScrappyGal for the December ornament swap we’re doing through the Color Me Happy Swaparooni group on Flickr.
The second photo is of some magnets Annalie and I made for her friend Morgan, whose 5th birthday party was yesterday. (Unfortunately I missed the party, but Troy took some fun photos and even videos, which you’ll get to see eventually if you watch this space.) Morgan is a big fan of the Pixar movie Cars. So I found some images online and we made these:
I hope you all had a better weekend than I did (I was mostly sick but am much better now), and that you fellow procrastinators are coming along nicely on your Christmas tasks!

I deffinitly consider you artsy and crafty—-I wont say fartsy cause I just dont know you that well!
You do make awesome stuff though and my kids would totally flip for those magnets!
OMG, I am such a dork but I have to tell you how exciting it is that my link is the word procrastinator. Dork!
Hahaha! It was totally unintentional! I just linked you in the order you commented. How funny, though. :-)
Those magnets are fabuluos!
You? NOT crafty? Ha!
Though I usually refer to myself as not crafty either. Because I could not sew my way out of a paper bag.
But YOU? Are crafty!
These magnets are really awsome!! I hope M loved them.
And for the record, I have always, always considered you artsy & crafty!
I loved! your magnets, and your hand-made colorful Christmas tree card. You are definitely crafty, babe. And I for one am mighty glad I (and my fridge) get to benefit from your crafty spoils. : )
[...] for each kid), a Diet Coke magnet for me and a honey magnet for, um, Honey. And the girl thinks she isn’t crafty. Go say hi to [...]
Hi Bethany! Just wanted to say that you and Annalie are just too cute :o) She looks like she is having a ball making those ornaments! I loved the wedding pics (the black and white of the three of you is amazing!). Have a happy holiday!

anyone who makes magnets is considered crafty :) I have no art background either, but yet I manage to carve a small niche in my little world of arts and crafts. Some of the worlds best artists never stepped foot in a classroom. Have a great Christmas.
you are definitely artsy-craftsy! :) you paint pottery, like to draw, crochet, etc… of course you are!
I’m very curious to see what that ornament is! :)
You’ve only been blogging for two months? Wow!
I am quite impressed with your craftiness :)
Dang tree is still up, and a box of ornaments refuses to return to the garage. Some crazy plan about photo-archiving and recording the who/when/why of recieving the ornaments.
Sigh. My apologies to Mr. King, Jr. that I will be using his day to finish up Christmas.
