Creative uses for a music box

December 13th, 2007

My mom called me a few days ago to let me know that a package would be arriving for Annalie soon. She said it was a Christmas present, but it was OK with her if we let Annalie open it right away. We open pretty much all of our Christmas mail as soon as it arrives, since waiting and opening it all on Christmas morning leads to being overwhelmed with paper and new stuff. So when the box arrived yesterday afternoon, Troy helped Annalie open it.

Annalie was thrilled to see a white jewelry box inside, with pink flowers and ballet slippers painted on the top. When she opened the lid and discovered it was a music box with a tiny ballerina twirling inside, she actually gasped with delight. Troy had left her sitting on the living-room floor opening and closing the lid to her new music box and walked into the next room to say something to me when we heard a suspicious sound.

When I entered the living room I found Annalie sitting on top of her new music box. I told her I didn’t think sitting on it was a good idea, and that maybe it would be better if we put the box up and when she wanted to look at it, she could ask me or Daddy ot get it down and we’d look at it with her.

Annalie didn’t put up much of a protest, but she did look like she was about to cry, so I asked her what was wrong. “I want my sandwich,” she said.

I glanced around the room for the PB&J I had made her a few minutes earlier. “Well, where did you leave it?” I asked her.

“In my music box!”

Sure enough, there it was, crammed into an opening of the pink velveteen interior.

Yeah, I think the music box will require parental supervision for a while yet.

I love this story! So sweet!

  2. Love this story. I used to hide candy in my jewelry box as a little kid.

Oh that’s hilarious! We’ve had to confiscate a couple toys from my now-6-year-old for the same kind of reasons. Some toys are cool, but cooler when you can watch them with it and it doesn’t get covered in peanut butter and jelly … hee hee

Awww how sweet!! Annalie knows where to put something that is precious to her … even if it is a PB&J sandwich!

Oh my gosh, that is too funny! I have heard stories like this only they usually involved an old VCR.
Guess when we only have DVD players around they have to find new places to stuff their PB and J.
    ;)

Do you suppose she was sitting on it to get the lid closed, vacation-suitcase style? Too funny!
