Day 2 of 7 – a world of yellow
March 29th, 2009
In today’s 7 Days shot, I’m enjoying a glass of delicious freshly-made lemonade! All the lemons on our tree are getting ripe at the same time. Within the past week we’ve probably picked 5 or 6 dozen. Even after I used a bunch to make lemonade this afternoon we still have at least 4 dozen in the fridge. You can see the lemons piled up in the bowl. That isn’t even all of them!
So many lemons, it’s making me a bit loopy. (Really this is just me being silly, trying to get a good 7 Days shot.)
Whenever we made lemonade last summer, Annalie had a hard time juicing the lemons. She’d give up after a couple of lemons and let me do the rest. This time, she actually got a fair amount of juice out of the ones she did, and she didn’t lose interest, juicing almost half the lemons we used. I was quite impressed.
I love daffodils. When I was growing up, we had rows of daffodils that grew in front of our house. They were special to me because they usually bloomed right around my birthday. I don’t have daffodils growing in my yard anymore, but I do have Trader Joe’s. At this time of year, they sell bunches of 10-12 daffodil buds for $1.29 a bunch. Take ‘em home, trim the ends and stick ‘em in water, and voila! They bloom into instant springtime. Well not instant springtime, but within a day or two…never mind. You know what I mean.
This afternoon I decided to take advantage of my mom still being here and go paint. Annika saw the butter crock I painted as a birthday gift to myself, and requested that I paint one for her in shades of yellow. This was very nearly my Day 2 shot, because I was pretty sure I’d be the only one with a pottery-painting shot, but I just liked the lemon one better.
While I was at the studio, I also painted these two little dotty bowls and picked up the mug that Jennifer commissioned me to paint for her dad’s retirement gift. I had a lot of fun painting this one. It’s in my Etsy shop for you, Jen!
Have you figured out yet that today’s theme for 7 Days was “yellow”? Annalie happened to be wearing a yellow shirt today, which was perfect. Then she decided she wanted to hold her yellow stuffed cat and kitten that the Jays sent to her when they lived in Japan, but we couldn’t find the kitten even though we looked all through her Boon chair where her stuffed animals live. I suggested that she go ahead and do her self-portrait with just the cat, and if we found the kitten later we could take another one. I helped her set up the camera on the deck and she posed smiling till the last second when she made a sad face.
We went back inside and Annalie decided she was going to search through the baskets upstairs for her kitten. She only had to search two baskets before she found the missing kitten. She was thrilled, and wanted to go right back out on the deck to take another picture. She lined up the shot, instructed me to hold the camera, turned on the timer, pressed the shutter, and ran over and arranged herself and her kitties in the chair. Once again, I was impressed.
Is it just me, or is Annalie turning into a big kid all of a sudden?!?

She sure is. But I think it has alot to do with her parents who don’t treat her like a child. :)
I’m buying daffodils when I go grocery shopping today! I could use some spring!
Lemons are so delightful, aren’t they? I have a very productive tree in my backyard and sometimes when there are too many lemons I freeze the fresh juice in ice cube trays (when they are frozen pop them into a ziplock bag) and save the frozen sunshine for a time when I want lemonade but the tree is taking a break. Just a thought. happy Monday!
Yes, welcome to the “big kid” years :)
I showed Noah your 7 days photo and said, “Look! They have a lemon TREE in their back yard! Isn’t that NEAT?” He was all, “I don’t know what I’d do with that many lemons.” And I was all, “Yea, but a LEMON TREE!!!”
He just didn’t get it.
May I suggest making up a batch of lemon curd? Also, I squealed when I saw what you were painting!
A friend of mine shared this on Google Reader and I had to share it with you: http://blog.ruhlman.com/ruhlmancom/2009/03/lemon-squares-they-sell-boxed-mixes.html
She IS a big girl. I would like you to make her stop growing up so fast, please.
I really do enjoy your blogging and photos. Hug-a the Annalie for me please.
She certainly is!
I love all the yellow in these photographs. Also? Mmmmm, lemonade….mmmm…
Great pic- both yours and Annalie’s. I’m so jealous of all those lemons! You’ve inspired me to pick up some daffodils at TJ’s when I go tomorrow.
I just love all the yellow and all the pictures!!
Lemons, ripe off the tree, mmmm!
Seeing your dottery reminds me! The lovely platter you made for me will be making an appearance on the Travel Oregon blog tomorrow! I’ll send you the link when it’s live…
It still blows my mind that you have an real lemon tree in your garden that grows real lemons – and what a great yellow harvest, too!
I can’t describe how magical is sounds to me to grow your own lemons, pick them and make fresh lemonade:)
I love Dadffodis as well. They remind me so much of Easter at home in Angelsey as my mothers garden is filled with them at this time of year. As I can’t go home to visit my mother this Easter I am filling up my house with Daffodils to cheer myself up. Whenever I pass a vase my eyes are always drawn to the blaze of colour.
