Day 2 – painting dots is very relaxing
July 13th, 2009
Seriously. You oughta try it!
Brenda and Erin ended up coming down late Saturday for a quick visit. Neither Erin nor Brenda are night owls like me, so it meant a lot to me that they were willing to drive down here at a time when they both normally would have been thinking about going to bed. Then when they got here, we sat around and chatted for another couple of hours, and THEN we watched the rest of an episode of Chuck that Brenda wanted to finish.
Speaking of Chuck, you have to check out the comments on my 7 Days photo from yesterday. Hilariously, they turned into one big Chuck commercial, which was honestly not my intention. But I loved it! And Sonja’s photo from today had two of my favorite things, Chuck and crocheting. The comments on that one are fun too. I’m slowly converting everyone I know into Chuck fans, bwahaha!
Um, when you guys get sick of hearing about Chuck, you’ll let me know, right? I don’t want to be that person who can’t talk about anything but her favorite TV show. I could also talk about my second- and third-favorite TV shows. Have you seen Burn Notice? Or Leverage?
Where I was? Oh, right!
Erin and Brenda and Bug were here today. I cooked a lot, because cooking for people makes me happy. At various points throughout the day we ate Pillsbury cinnamon buns, homemade eggs benedict, leftover noodle stir-fry with spicy peanut sauce, Greek salad subs, and chocolate chip cookies. We also did a lot of sitting around and chatting over our laptops and drinking coffee while the kids played outside.
And we painted pottery, of course. Because we’re utterly predictable in that way.
Erin had started painting this box last weekend, when she and Rocco were here for the 4th of July. She left it at my house so she could work on it this weekend. It’s still not quite finished.
Here’s the mug Brenda was painting at my house the other day. I love how the glazing & firing process makes everything so shiny and pretty! I never get tired of it.
This teapot was on the clearance shelf (it had a small chip in it on the rim under the lid) and for some reason it called out to me. I knew I wanted to do dots, and Brenda suggested shades of purple. I added brown, too. I think I’m going to like this one a lot when it’s fired.
I have to give Troy credit here, because if it weren’t for his help we wouldn’t have had nearly as much fun today. When Annalie and Bug were tired of painting, he offered to take them to walk a puppy, and when it turned out that the pet store wasn’t doing puppy-walking today, he took them back home. He even gave Bug her pahs and tucked her in for a nap! It must be said: Troy is awesome.
I have a photo of Troy and me (a 7 Days reject) that I wanted to put here but I just realized that I never downloaded it off my other camera and it’s after 1am and I’m tired and need to go to bed so you’ll have to imagine our smiling faces here. Sorry for ending the post with a major run-on sentence and in such an awkward

I don’t know any people in person who talk about their favorite shows. Hmmm…maybe I’m “that person”!
I’ve never seen Leverage. I don’t think I’ve even heard of it. Now I must check it out since I do like Chuck and Burn Notice.
And you must be very tired. I’ve never seen you finish a post without finishing the sentence even. And what does V=Erin’s picture mean? ;-D
I used to bore people with Firefly, now I bore them with Chuck. I could go on and on about any number of movies and books, too!
V=Erin’s picture means a typo, which I’ve now fixed.
The last sentence was my poor attempt at humor. Clearly it didn’t work as well as I’d hoped. ;-)
Is it wrong that when I read “have a spot of tea” I heard a British accent in my head?
Well…what I imagine a British accent might sound like. For all I know… it could sound French to me.
Wait… what does French sound like?
Shutting up now.
P.S. Firefly is never boring! Not to watch, talk about, or hear about! Ever!!
Ha HAH!!!! You have the best commenters. It was a super fun day. I especially like the photo of us painting like proper ladies with excellent posture.
Another fun day for you guys. Brenda’s mug is really cool. Again, you guys have so much patience for your patterns, amazing.
When Brenda was painting her mug I asked if it was coral and she said, “no, just lines.”
I like how she added the little fish. It reminds me of Nemo swimming in the reef.
I love the tea pot and also read it with a British accent. I don;t think there’s anoy other way, unlkess you want to go Southern and that’s just not quite as nice. Not that there’s anything wrong with being Southern. It’s just that the British accent sounds nicer and less snobby.?. I think you know what I mean.
I LOVE Burn Notice! Great show!!!!
I love your dots too… so fun. :) I can’t wait to see what your teapot looks when it’s finished.
I seriously love EVERY SINGLE PIECE that you and Brenda paint. They’re just amazing. LOVE the tea pot and LOVE the mug. You ladies are just seriously talented.
ps. yes, your husband is awesome!!
I concur: Troy is AAAWWWWEEESOMMMMEE (that’s in my best Jack Black voice.)
Even your T-pot was wearing brown that day!
I am in love with your teapot! Are you interested in selling it? Or being comissioned for another?
Erin’s Jack Black impersonation made me LOL because I have a weird crush on Jack Black.
Sounds like a super fun day. You guys are so creative with the pottery. I need to work on my skillz.
You don’t have to convince me. I love Chuck AND Leverage. Just finished watching the Leverage season premiere tonight, in fact. So. Good.
