Day 4 - our new pool sucks

Can you tell how hot and sweaty I was when I took this photo? We just bought a new inflatable pool at Target that we thought was similar to the big green round pool we had last summer in San Diego. Well, we were wrong.

This one doesn’t have a bench in it, it doesn’t have nifty cupholders in the sides, and worst of all IT DOESN’T HAVE A DRAIN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE POOL. How ridiculous is that!? To empty the 3-day-old cruddy water I had to stand on the side, balancing very precariously, so the gross water and dead bugs and leaves and grass could flow out over my feet. It was far too heavy for me to pick up and dump without ripping the plastic till it was nearly empty, which I only realized after struggling with the half-empty pool for several minutes. Hence me being hot and sweaty and annoyed. And in this photo you can’t even see my rolled-up splashed-with-gross-water pants.

At least Annalie had fun swimming once it was emptied, rinsed, and refilled! Now I’m wondering why I didn’t just put on my swimsuit and join her.

7 Days outtake - Day 4

This was another shot I rejected because I felt it did not accurately portray the level of my annoyance.

unbalanced deck

This isn’t really related to my 7 Days shot at all, except that I was standing on the deck when I took it. I just thought I’d share how unbalanced our deck looks right now.

See that big tree on the left, the one that hangs over part of our deck and house? It’s been dead for a couple of years, and we were told that it would be cut down soon after we moved in. Well, the guy who does maintenance on our rental house is a general contractor and a friend of the owners. He does good work, but he does it on his schedule. He told us a couple of weeks ago that he would be by “on Thursday” to cut down the dead tree. We moved our deck furniture and container garden over to the other side of the deck so they wouldn’t get inadvertently crushed. Apparently something came up, because no one ever showed up to cut the tree, and we have not heard from the maintenance guy. But we don’t want to move all our stuff back because the minute we do he’ll show up and we’ll have to move it all back.

Hey, wait…maybe we should move our stuff back, and then he’d show up to get rid of the tree.

Bummer, that other little pool was cool. It was a bit of the inspiration for us getting one this year. At least she had a good time after the empty/filling was done.

OMG, that first picture made me laugh. Girl, you cannot hide your emotions. I didn’t even know some of those pools had drains and cup holders. What rock have I been living under? And ewww the bug/grass/your feet thing.

That stinks about the pool!! At least Annalie is having fun! There is nothing worse than feeling annoyed and then add whining kids on top of it! :)

That stinks about the tree guy! Hope he comes soon!

  4. Madge says:

Well, that’s not good! at all. Maybe you can use your hose to siphon the water out? Anything is better than dead bugs floating past your legs, ICK!

I hope the tree guy shows up soon. Our handyman is MIA quite a lot too.

How can it not have a drain? When I was a daycare teacher, we had a water table with a broken drain. I had to empty it with sponges. Soak up water with a handful of sponges, squeeze them out of the sink, repeat until I wanted to die.

What happened to the other little pool? Ummm what am I talking about? BIG pool.

I could very much use that nifty green pool right now! Its been so hot and humid in Ohio and Michigan that even the seagulls dont want to poop on cars. haha, Im glad Annalie is having a great time.

In our very first house, Noah and I had the WORST landlords EVER. The only time they came when they said they would was when our oven had caught fire. (We called them AFTER the fire was out.) Some things they said they’d have done before we moved in still weren’t done when we moved out TWO YEARS LATER.

I hate pools like that. It would make me annoyed too!

We have one of those pools. What’s with the crappy design? When you described standing on the side of the pool I laughed so hard. That was me a few days ago. Ugh! So gross!

You totally should move your stuff back then the tree removal will commence. It looks like it used to be such a nice tree.

Your San Diego pool was pretty great. You should just get a semi-permanent one like we have, put it up Memorial Day and put it away Labour Day. Ours is pretty big but, we started with a small one that would be perfect for Annalie.

Your level of annoyance is noted ;).

And I do love the patio set even if it isn’t on the proper side of the deck.
