Easter fun, Easter sorrow

April 13th, 2009

We had a great Easter! Troy and Annalie and I went to church in the morning, then drove up to Brenda & Toby’s for a late-afternoon Easter dinner and then an egg hunt in the park! It was really fun to hang out with them, and for once both the guys were not working and able to join in on the fun. It was a good day.

Underneath the surface, I was worrying and praying all day for Shana and her family, because I knew Shana’s 3-month old son Thalon was fighting for his life in the hospital. When we got home last night, I found out that Thalon passed away at the hospital yesterday afternoon, surrounded by his family. This is the second blogger who lost a child (that I know of) in the past week. I’m grieving and praying for Maddie’s and Thalon’s families and friends today.

If you want to help, you can donate money to March of Dimes in Maddie’s honor, and Shana’s friend Sarah wrote a tribute to Thalon and his family and set up a PayPal donation button to help with medical and funeral expenses.

Sometimes the internet seems like a harsh, sarcastic, artificial world. This week, the outpouring of love and support and prayers for these families has moved me to tears more than once. I’m so grateful for my online friends.

In the midst of the heartache and tragedy I have been blown away at how amazing this community is.

It’s just…unthinkable. I can’t imagine how people keep going when they lose a child. I don’t “know” these bloggers but that doesn’t matter, my heart is broken for them. It’s so beautiful to see the Internet rally around those who are hurting.

  3. I know what you mean about the outpouring of love. I didn’t know about either of these families before last week and the generosity and community of the Internet has really impressed me. I just hope they know alot of us are praying for them, whether we know them or not.

Your Easter looks like it was just beautiful. What a gorgeous day.

I have been praying for Shayna too and am just heartbroken. And Maddie’s family. This is all too much this week, just too much.

Oh my goodness, that is awful. A child dying is a true tragedy. The lose of innocence is one of the most painful things to bear witness to. It’s times like these when the internet community amazes me and proves, yet again, that there are kind, caring, generous people behind these anonymous words and screens.

I’ve been moved by the amount of love and generosity of the blogging world as well – definitely a lot of love floating around right now for those families.

I’m glad you had a good Easter!!

Wow, that’s awful. I can’t imagine what that would be like. It makes me want to stop being so glib about my kids and go home and hug them.

On a lighter note, great pictures!

  8. I thank God every day for my little miracles. I just cannot imagine what these other women must be feeling right now. My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families. I’m off to click the links…

    Beautiful photos. Happy belated Easter.

  9. Just randomly tripped over your blog…so cute! I’m wondering if you’re using blog story boards or some sort of program. I love how you’re posting these pics!
