Good riddance, 2007
December 31st, 2007
So we’re ending the old year with a bang, and a crash, and some tears (on Annalie’s part) and some self-recriminations (on mine & Troy’s part).
Annalie pulled a heavy box down onto her leg and foot this morning. Troy was helping me finish up a batch of cookies for a party we’re going to tonight when we heard a series of bangs and crashes behind us. Before either of us could move Annalie had fallen back into our kitchen chairs and table, sending the lightweight pieces skidding, and the large flat box holding the pieces of a bookcase was down on top of her right leg. Aack!
We both ran over to scoop her up and comfort her. She was crying, but thankfully she was able to wiggle her toes and move her foot. We ran cold water over her foot and leg in the bathroom sink (Annalie protesting the whole time, “That’s enough, that’s enough!”) and had her take Motrin to help with the swelling and the pain. At first she kept saying she wanted to go to bed, which I could understand because my inclination when I am in pain is to go hole up by myself too. But we wanted to keep an eye on her, so we convinced her to snuggle on the couch with Troy and turned the TV to Discovery Kids. She’d watch for a few minutes in silence, then remember the pain and cry a little. Poor baby.
It’s been a couple of hours now, and Annalie says her foot is feeling “more good” already. I’m thinking that after her nap she might get up and walk on that foot before she remembers that she hurt it. I hope that’s what happens. She also told us she was hungry, which is a good sign, no? She’s eating leftover aebleskiver as I type this.
A little while after all this happened and we were all sitting here on the couch, Troy said, “You know what the kicker is? As I was helping you with those cookies, I was thinking about how when I was done with that, I was gonna break down those boxes and take the pieces of the bookcase upstairs to the office, so they would be up there when we were ready to put it together in Annalie’s room.”
At least Annalie IS feeling better.
We hope she continues improving, so we’re able to go to the family New Year’s party at our friends Jill & Andy’s house tonight. There, we’ll chat with friends while we stuff our faces with delicious appetizers and the kids play. We’ll break out noisemakers and do the countdown at 7pm (midnight Greenwich Mean Time). Then we can all take our kids home and put them to bed at a reasonable hour. Troy and I will be staying up to see in the New Year with root beer floats and a classic movie we’ve never seen before, which has been our tradition since we got married. This year I think we’ll watch To Kill a Mockingbird, if Netflix delivers it today. If not, we’ll watch whatever we can find at Blockbuster.
Happy New Year, everyone! Whatever you’re doing tonight, have fun and be safe. I hope 2008 is the year you get pregnant, find that dream job, perfect your homemade spaghetti sauce, run the 5K, learn to knit, reconnect with old friends, or whatever it is your heart desires.

Hmm… maybe I should learn to knit in 2008! :-)
I love Annalie’s socks, I wish I could wear that look! Have a great New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day!

Oh! I’m really glad it wasn’t fractured … though watch it. Meredith hurt her leg on a slide one and it was just a hairline fracture, but over time it became more and more uncomfortable until she wouldn’t walk on it at all.
We ended up casting it so it could heal. I’ll say a prayer against that possibility.
I know we can’t be there all the time, but man I know that momma guilt when we can’t.
Happy New Year to you too!
What a blessing you are!
Love that I met you in 2007!

Quite unexpectedly, I felt my eyes stinging a little when I realised that you’d done the New Year countdown at the same time as me. Happy new year to you, Troy and of course brave Annalie and her little leg.

Glad to hear that Annalie was injured too badly. Hopefully she will be feeling better in no time.
Happy New Year to you and thanks for coming back to the world of blogging :)

Oh, Bethany, I’m not sure that me getting pregnant right now is a really great idea…
Happy New Year!

Awww, poor baby! I’m so glad she’s feeling better now. That’s no fun at all. And tell her that her socks are simply *fabulous* :-)
Happy New Year to you too! I hope you guys had a blast!

I certainly hope Annalie was up running about this morning before she had time to think about the injury of yesterday. Best wishes and Happy New Year to all of you!

Happy New Year Bethany! I am glad that Annalie is feeling better and that a trip to the ER was not in your New Years Eve plans. It has been wonderful ‘meeting’ you this past year and I look forward to getting to know you better in 2008.

Bless her heart…I saw that little tear on her face in that first pic, and I wanted to cry too! God love her! Well, I hope she is feeling better today :o) Hope you had a wonderful New Year’s Eve! As I was reading your wishes for everyone for 2008, I saw that one of those wishes was my heart’s desire too! We’ll see what’s in store :o) I love your tradition of rootbeer floats and a movie you havent seen yet…too cool! Happy New Year!

What a great idea to celebrate at GMT instead of waiting up to all hours! Frank gets cranky to later it gets. Maybe THIS will become our new tradition…though the movie sounds good too. Hope your New Year’s eve celebration was everything you’d hoped it would be and Annalie is feeling much better by now. Can’t keep that little flutter-by down for long! Best wishes for all your plans for 2008. I was thinking about becoming an astronaut…but the clothes make me look too big.

Happy New Year to you and the family. Nice to hear you welcomed in the New Year with us Brits.
Glad to hear Annalie is on the mend, Im sure buckets of TLC will speed it on no end.
I’m missing the fun of 7days but am filling the void by reading here, Dreamdust, Cartwheels At Midnight and Talk to the Mike. All the best in the New Year.

Oh, please don’t wish pregnancy on me. Been there, done that not to mention too old. HA HA Happy New Year. I’m glad Analie’s leg seems fine.

Happy New Year to you too, Bethany! So glad that your little girl is doing better. I hate it when things like that happen. Wildman pinched his finger in our bedroom door a couple of weeks ago. It almost killed me! He still has a little bruise underneath his fingernail that is growing out. Every time I look at it I feel so bad that the accident happened.

Happy New Year! I’m not sure if I’ve commented before but I’ve really been enjoying your blog. Great ideas mixed with personal stories. So, here’s to you continuing in 2008.
I hope that I get pregnant this year though! Gotta stop the breastfeeding first and then take a 6 month pause for “non-baby producing sex” as my husband puts it. :)

Happy New Year! Glad Annalie’s going better. Love the new years tradition, I never knew you guys did that… Loved the xmas card too. We spent New years eve and day in Omaha this year (saw Chris Botti w/ my parents and Kassie’s parents and had a great time). Here’s to a great 2008!
