Gramaw’s leaving on a jet plane
March 30th, 2008
In a few minutes, we’re leaving to take my mom to the airport in D.C. She’s been here visiting for a month, which would be about three and a half weeks too long for many people to have their mom stay. But not for us! My mom is one of those people who is very easy to be around. We love having her here.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say my mom spoils Annalie. But she sure does love on her an awful lot. My mom says now that she has a granddaughter, she understands that bumper sticker that says, “If I’d known how much fun grandkids were, I’d have had them first!”
And the feeling is mutual. As far Annalie is concerned, Gramaw is the Chosen One. Gramaw is the story-reader, bath-giver, and bedtime-tucker-inner. When we go out to eat, Annalie has to sit in the booth with Gramaw. When Annalie wants to go play in a different room of the house, she cheerfully calls out, “C’mon, Gramaw! Let’s go play!”
When my mom is here visiting, Troy and I try go out on a date at least once a week. Sometimes we go out more often than that, when Annalie asks hopefully, “Mama, are you and Daddy going on a date tonight, so I can have a date with Gramaw? Please?”
We’ll miss you, Mom! We’re glad you’re coming back in May for Annalie’s birthday. Bon voyage!
Below is the postcard I made at my mom’s request, as a memento of her visit.

Awww, your Mom looks like she was having a blast with Annalie. Glad she could come and stay for a month. I have no problems spending lots of time with my Mom either (to be fair though, she lives a five minute drive away, and she has been in Saskatchewan with my Sister for two weeks, oh how we have missed her here).

We love your mom! I’d probably rather have your mom stay with us for a month than my own! Sorry, Mom!

I love the postcard!!! “How did you create it?” asked a totally inept blogger.

Your mom looks like so much fun! How great that you have that kind of relationship.

“I’m leavin’ on a jet plane…”
Now I have John Denver stuck on the brain.
GRAMAW! I love that spelling b/c that is EXACTLY how I said it and EXACTLY how I hear kids say it all the time.
I CAN wait to be a Grandma, but I can’t “wait” to be a Grandma; if that makes any sense.
Your mom looks absolutely perfect for the job; she exudes joy! No wonder she’s wonderful to have for a visit!

Sadly, I do not have a nice grandmother. So it makes me happy to see that my little girl LOVES her Mimi so much. Mimi is the chosen one too. I try not to feel TOO rejected when she picks her over me because I always tell myself that next to Mommy, Mimi is the next best thing!! :)
