Headbands, a baby blanket, and Annalie fashion
May 1st, 2008
A few evenings ago, I crocheted a bunch of headbands while watching TV. If you want one, they’re in my Etsy shop.
Also, I crocheted a baby blanket in two days. Whew! I didn’t know I could do that. Thanks for the challenge, Lynda!
Lately, Annalie has been coming downstairs in the morning already dressed. She chooses the outfits all by herself, and usually comes down the stairs with a little half-grin, waiting for me to say something. Other times, she doesn’t wait for me, but smooths her hands down her shirt or dress and exclaims, “Don’t I look soooo cute!” And of course, she does.
If we’re going to be leaving the house and Annalie is wearing a particularly interesting outfit, I might mention to her that most people probably wouldn’t wear, say, a navy t-shirt bearing an American flag and the words “born in the U.S.A.” and a pair of orange jersey shorts with a silver racing stripe at the same time. She invariably replies, “That’s okay, I don’t mind!”
I hope she keeps that self-confidence her whole life.

on the one hand, I like cute clothes and ‘fashion’, on the other hand… wouldn’t the world be easier/nicer if we all just wore whatever we wanted, “not minding” what other people think? :)

Yay more headbands!! I love mine :) And a baby blanket in two days, you so ROCK.
As for Annalie. I just love that she is so confident and definitely hope she keeps it up. My youngest Sister was like that at Annalie’s age and she still dresses her way and looks fabulous. My Mom always encouraged and only slightly swayed her choices and I think it was a great thing to do.

I love the fact that you let her be herself and give her the freedom to choose what she wants to wear even if it’s a jumbled mess. You are doing a great job (it’s nice to hear positive things once in a while.)

Annalie and I may be kindred spirits. I’m currently wearing hot pink sweatpants with a Peanuts Halloween t-shirt. Don’t I look SO cute? :)

Amen, that kind of confidence would be great for everyone!

Who is to say what doesn’t match. When I was growing up pink and orange and green didn’t go together and today they are the hottest trend.
You have to pick your battles….this one isn’t it.
Good for her. After a while she will decide what she likes together. Experimenting with clothes is a good way to experiment.

I should say a SAFE way to experiment.

My PB is the same way still at 9. I occassionaly point something out if it’s extreme, but for the most part I don’t worry about it anymore. She currently loves to pair her plaid shorts with striped shirts, because both have pink so they must match. My 5 year old boy pretty much wears whatever I hand him, as he would prefer to stay in his jammies alllllll daaaaaayyy longggggg.
Love the pics, thanks for sharing!

She’s probably just ahead of her time, fashion wise.

I love the little girl outfits that look like a kid picked them out. My favorites involve patterned tights and funky colored tops and bottoms. It’s the same look that Bri sports when her Daddy dresses her. He did that today and I got a picture with my NEW camera!

“Most people wouldn’t wear this?” WHAT?!”
Sorry, video still in my head!
Stripes and plaid rock - she is the next great designer, writer, and creative.

It still amazes me just how differently children the same age can see the world. Acorn (same age as Analie) becomes upset to the point of near-hysterics if he thinks his clothes might not match. Navy shirt, orange shorts? Only if those racing stripes were navy, I tell you. (I don’t know where he gets this, but it’s not from his mama.)
Your two-day baby blanket has me properly impressed. Well done, Bethany.
