January interlude

January 12th, 2008

We’ve been taking it easy lately. It’s January and that just seems like a take-it-easy time of year.

Katy & Annalie

I don’t know about you all, but around here it feels like the craziness of the past few months, with traveling and weddings and the holidays and illnesses, is finally over. It’s winter, which means the days are shorter and more likely to be spent at home rather than running around town. This has been especially true for us since Annalie hurt her foot on New Year’s Eve.

Her foot is gradually getting better, in case you were wondering. No dramatic improvements, just a little better every day. We’re continuing to do what the doctor told us to do: rest the injured foot, maybe put a little ice on it occasionally, and Motrin at night. All of that seems to be working.

When we ask Annalie how her foot feels, she says, “More good!” And she’s certainly getting herself where she wants to go, by crawling or walking on her knees, and she’s gotten quite adept at getting up and down onto chairs and beds using only her hands and good foot. She still isn’t putting weight on the injured foot, other than a little weight on her toes for balance, but that’s OK. I would rather she stay off her foot for a few weeks and let it completely heal than jump up and run around too soon and injure it even further.

Stickers are a must

So we have been spending most of our time at home lately. We snuggle on the couch and watch more TV than we probably should. Annalie takes leisurely bubble baths just for fun. We play with homemade play-dough and do puzzles. We paint with the new squeezy paint and write thank-you notes. We have apples and chocolate milk and honey-roasted peanuts for a snack. The days are long and relaxed, and involve no packing, no shopping, no wrapping gifts. Aaaahhhh.

One of the things I have been doing a lot of lately is crocheting. I made another attempt at Roman Sock’s little instant-crochetification elephant, and I really like how this second one turned out. Meet Pucky II!

Pucky II

I used microspun yarn this time, instead of cotton, and stuffed it with polyfill instead of plastic grocery bags. I also figured out a way to crochet the eyes, which I tried to do last time without much success. This time, I was thinking that I wished I had some embroidery floss when I had the bright idea to separate the plys of the yarn out like you do with floss. That worked pretty well.

I’ve also been busy crocheting something for another mystery project with SAJ.

Hmm. Maybe January has been a busier month than I thought!

  1. Glad to hear that Annalie is started to feel “more good” thanks to taking it easy. Staying in and resting is always nice, even if it means more television than you would like.

Love Pucky II – great color! Oh and I can not wait to see what you and SAJ have up your sleeves this time :)

I’m glad to see that the little one is getting better. I agree… better that she stay off her feet and let it rest rather than jump around too much now and risk injuring it further.

Pucky II is so cute!! You know… elephants mean good luck!! :)

Wow! Sounds like you’re making lots of special memories together. Makes me want to curl up with a cup of hot chocolate, a warm fire and a good book.

I love the picture of Annalie & Katy! Your elephant Pucky II is very cute too. You are getting crocheting done because you are staying home more :-) I too am curious about you and SAJ, hmmmm.. can’t wait to see!

  7. bluejaye says:

I know what the project is…maybe you could share the pattern when you are done. Or offer it on Etsy. They look great.

  8. bluejaye says:

What paint do you use on your cups?

The “mystery project’ looks like snowballs to me. ;) Im glad things are finally calming down for your family and that Annalie’s foot is getting better byt he day.

I gave you an award over on my blog. Yes you deserve it!

Oh…leisurely bubble baths. Now you’re talking.
I must have one of those myself.

So good to hear Annalie is healing well.
I am loving seeing her artworks…and hearing her sing.

What gorgeous blue eyes! That is a great picture. Can’t wait to see the results of the mystery project!

  15. [...] we’ve been enjoying our lazy days at home. But we can get a little bit stir-crazy when we don’t leave the house for a day or two. [...]

  16. OMSH says:

Seriously, that first shot is fabulous. Oh Annalie, you are a beauty.

Next, I’m always jealous when you talk about leisurely this and that … and crafting. Okay, so maybe not with the crafting. I don’t want to craft much, but I do want to come and take pictures while YOU and SAJ craft!

Is it odd that I love fabric, but don’t want to sew? Or yarn and don’t want to knit/crochet? Or love paper, but don’t want to cut or paint?

Maybe I’m just a texture gal.

  17. [...] Does anyone remember waaaay back in January, when I made a bunch of crocheted snowballs? [...]
