Licorice the black cat
January 6th, 2008
You might remember that SAJ designed some pumpkin trick-or-treat bags last fall, and I crocheted one for her daughter and one for Annalie. Soon after that, I thought I’d try my hand at a cat bag. Meet Licorice!
I crocheted most of him when I was in Omaha in November, and finished up the details on the drive back home. I wasn’t entirely happy with him, however, so I stuck him in a bag with extra yarn and moved on to other projects. A couple of days ago I was looking for my black yarn, and found Licorice. I still wasn’t happy with how he’d turned out as a bag, but in a moment of inspiration I decided to stuff the bag part and sew it shut, making him into a pillow. With a handle. So he could double as a doorknob decoration!
I like him much better this way, and I am so happy to have rescued him. Now he’s for sale in my Etsy shop, waiting for a good home.
I also crocheted a little Gumball. I am proud of myself for figuring out how to make him in 3-D, but he’s kinda pathetic looking. Nowhere near as good as Falwyn’s 3-D Gumball.
Really this photo makes him look cuter than he is. His body is too fat, his legs are all misshapen, and his vacant stare is a little disconcerting. Annalie is happy with him, but I think I’ll have to give it another shot eventually.

He’s PERFECT!!
You really are the craft MASTER :)
Here kitty kitty kitty! Come home to SAJ
What a talent! Both of them are absolutely adorable.
Both items turned out SO adorable!! Great job!! I would love to learn to crochet/knit someday but I’m one of those people that can’t learn from a book. I’d need someone to sit next to me and actually SHOW me. I can crochet a long chain but that’s about it… yay me, right? :)
Don’t be too hard on yourself though… they came out SOOOO cute!
Doorknob decoration! I love it!
Holy cow! I love the cat doorknob hanger! And Gumball is too cute! You’re so talented!
Awww they are so cute, and now gumball has a friend!
Ooooh, I love licorice! Oh so cute :)
ok I can’t crochet and have no business learning. But I found some cool thing to crochet and thoughtI would share them with you. You may already know about them. crap the site won’t load but go to familyfun.com and search for crochet under crafts to do.
Wait a minute wait a minute….. maybe….yes… no…. here this is the best I can do. But I know I saw them here. http://familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts/season/tool/craftfinder_tlp/
I adore Licorice! (And not least the name.) Very awesome. It’s the kind of lovely thing I wouldn’t have thought to do but that my kids would adore.
Your Gumball appears the merest bit wall-eyed in the photo but has a certain charm all the same. All things Gumball are good. :)
Again, I should have given SAJ credit for the name. Thanks, Brenda!
