many miles to go

Porsche Boxster S

Did I mention, that car that we’re driving back from Omaha that Troy’s dad left him, it’s a 2000 Porsche Boxster S? Troy’s dad had wanted one for years, and he finally bought one the year before he died. Even though it’s a really impractical car for a family and it brings our total up to four vehicles owned, we’re going to hang on to it for a while. Troy’s been looking forward to driving it around with the top down. It’s not the most comfortable car for long road trips though. Oh well.

Porsche through the door

We ended up leaving Omaha later than planned yesterday, and then wound up hanging out in Kansas City for a while so we could have dinner with our good friends Joe & Kassie. That was a lot of fun.

live better electrically

While we waited for them to get home from work, I took a few photos. This medallion by the front door of Kassie & Joe’s house has always intrigued me.

yard gnome

Cute little yard gnome.

self-portrait in a high mirror

I love this mirror in their entryway. But I am always laughing at how short I am at their house, because Joe and Kassie are both tall and hang their mirrors accordingly.

Mac Buddy

Mac the Wonder Dog. He missed having Annalie there to play with.

Troy & Mac

Troy checking the weather online while Mac naps at his feet.

self-portrait with Joe's lens

Joe (my camera teacher) has a D50 and some really fun lenses. He let me play around with them on my camera. This was taken in a mirror in their living room with the zoom.

What can we say?

We had dinner at a great Asian restaurant. This line in the menu cracked me up.

good to the last drop

Kassie enjoying her jasmine tea.

Pu-Er tea

I had the Pu-Er, a black tea that was delicious. The dumplings and noodles were equally good.

We made it to Blackwell, Oklahoma last night, which wasn’t nearly as far as we thought we’d get but oh well. Today we’re aiming for Phoenix, but will settle for Flagstaff.

  1. I need one of those mirrors. Gorgeous! I would also order that Crispy Tofu just because of that line. I love it.

OH. MY. GOODNESS. You get to take a roadtrip in a PORSCHE?! My hubby and I would fight over who got to drive constantly. And we (meaning I) would probably have several reckless driving/speeding tickets by the time I got home. LUCKY!

So did you try the awesome sauce? Did it live up to its name?
On a very unrelated note, I like how the entryway mirror, the painting in the living room, and the necklace Kassie is wearing all fit into the same color-scheme. (What can I say, I like order and matchiness.)
Also, stop complaining about going on a road trip. With your husband. IN A PORSCHE. :)

So fun to see our house through your eyes/lens! It was great to see you guys, though brief. Hope the rest of your drive is safe and “awesome”!

I think that mirror belongs in your home, it reminds me of your dot pottery! Enjoy this uninterrupted “talk” or “Non talk” time with Troy.

  6. Awesome! If I had a restaurant I would totally put descriptions like that on my menu.

    Nice car!

I’ve always thought it would be fun to have a yard gnome, they just make me smile.

That is one slick car! May not be the most comfy ride but at least you look good ;-) ! Love the self-portraits – you know you really are the queen of self-portraits.

  8. Dana Buschkemper says:

Yeah, I feel sorry for you trapped in a car like that for over 2 days :) Couldn’t have gotten it last month so I could have enjoyed it while I was out visiting huh? Have a safe trip and don’t get any tickets!

  9. jastereo says:

So glad you guys visited and got hang w/Mr Mac (the awesomly ferocious guard dog that he is) for a few hours before we got home. Great dinner too and whoo hoo I got to drive a Porsche! Hope we didn’t slow down the trip too much, happy driving you lucky couple…

I gasped so loudly when I opened your blog that my husband came running in to see what had happened! Then, he stood drooling by my elbow for several minutes before he let me scroll down the page. When I giggled over the photo taken of the car from inside the house, Chris commented that he’d be taking one from every window and door, too, just to make sure it wasn’t a dream. :)

Also love? Spicy Awesome Sauce. I hope you had that!

    Love that mirror!

    Have a great trip!

  12. justJENN says:

I’m going out awesome sauce on EVERYTHING.

  13. Ricki says:

Oh, wow. Such a tough task – that driving cross-country in a BOXTER! Sucks to be you two!

  14. sarahgrace says:

I was wondering when we’d get to see the car, and now I see why you kept it a secret! Have a blast driving home- I hope you get to drive it too!

Bethany, great pics again!! Porsche, das schnellenwagen! Killer.

It’s fun to do that paint with light feature, Toby showed me how when I first got the EOS 10D. Way cool timed exposure!

That medallion was part of a building campaign back in the sixties and early seventies by the big utilities…”All Electric Home” is what the medallion signifies. Heavily promoted, the campaign took a header when the OPEC oil crisis in 1974 yanked oil prices and hence electric bills sky high.

How fun to have a Porsche to drive around. This seems like one of those things that was just meant to be that you have so take it out for spins when it is ‘date’ night and enjoy. I am sure Troy’s Dad would love knowing you two were enjoying it. I miss my convertible, so expect some great topless photos ;).

  17. Amanda says:

That’s a nice car! My mom had one for a while. I agree with you, it’s not the most comfortable vehicle for long road trips.

Looks like you’re having a great time! Awesome, just like the sauce!

  18. [...] Kassie were here last week for a couple of days. The main purpose of their visit was to pick up the Porsche. Troy figured it didn’t make much sense to have it sitting in our garage the whole time [...]
