. Ten Things I Wish I Could Say to Ten Different People Right Now:

  1. I know you did the best you could. I wish I could have known you better.
  2. You had an enormous positive effect on my life. Thank you!
  3. You must have been a really sad, damaged kid to treat me the way you did. I hope you’ve found a way to be happy.
  4. What we did was childish and cruel and I have felt bad about it ever since. I’m sorry.
  5. I lost all respect for you when you gave me a grade I had not earned, even though it was in my favor.
  6. You shouldn’t have pushed me to do something you knew I didn’t want to do.
  7. Oh, grow up already.
  8. Do you have any idea why we don’t talk anymore?
  9. I just don’t understand what’s going on in your head and I am really worried about you.
  10. For the first time since we met, you seem calm and ready to face a challenge. I am so glad.

Nine Things About Myself:

  1. I’m pretty lazy when it comes to housework.
  2. I’m not lazy at all when it comes to cooking elaborate dishes.
  3. I like painting my toenails but colored polish on my fingernails bugs me.
  4. I like jewelry but try not to buy much because I rarely wear it.
  5. I’m an introvert with extraverted tendencies. If you were just meeting me you’d probably never guess the introvert part.
  6. I’ve always wanted to learn to play guitar. I still plan to someday.
  7. I’ve always been fascinated by drums, but have no desire to learn to play myself.
  8. I am relieved but not really surprised that Annalie prefers movies like Madagascar and Surf’s Up and isn’t really interested in the Barbie movies. I never had much interest in Barbies as a kid either.
  9. When I first saw Spongebob Squarepants I thought it was incredibly stupid and annoying. Now, I…kinda think it’s funny.

Eight Ways To Win My Heart:

  1. Write to me—postcards, letters, emails, notes on a dry-erase board, whatever.
  2. Laugh with me.
  3. Don’t take things personally.
  4. Be persistent. If I turn down an invitation it’s probably because I am a homebody and don’t want to leave the house that day. Please keep inviting me.
  5. Don’t take much notice of what’s cool and uncool. Just like what you like because it appeals to you, whether or not anyone else agrees.
  6. Disagree with me. I love a good discussion.
  7. Be kind to others, regardless of their age or language or job…especially when they aren’t in the room to defend themselves.
  8. Be a coffee drinker. I know, this one is shallow, but I can’t help it. I love it when someone is willing to sit and drink coffee with me while we chat.

Seven Things That Cross My Mind a Lot:

  1. I really miss them.
  2. My kid cracks me up!
  3. Just one more minute.
  4. Thank you, God.
  5. Ooh, that sounds yummy. I wonder if I have all the ingredients?
  6. I could do that, but…I don’t feel like leaving the house.
  7. Where the heck did I leave my coffee?

Six Things I Do Before I Fall Asleep:

  1. Check on Annalie.
  2. Make sure the cats have food and water.
  3. Make sure the doors are locked. (Though I only do this one if Troy isn’t home.)
  4. Clean up the kitchen.
  5. Brush my teeth.
  6. Read.

Five People Who Mean a Lot:
Only five? Really? It goes without saying that this list is not all-inclusive, right?

  1. Troy
  2. Annalie
  3. A. Erin
  4. Heat
  5. Brenda

Four Things You’re Wearing Right Now:

  1. red t-shirt with a big sparkly ‘N’ (for Nebraska)
  2. black cropped chinos
  3. the usual underthings
  4. the ring Troy gave me for our 10th anniversary

Three Songs That You Listen to Often (Currently):

  1. “Something Crazy” by Steven Curtis Chapman
  2. “Crazy ABC’s” by Barenaked Ladies (hmm, I sense a theme developing…)
  3. “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here” by she&him

Two Things You Want to Do Before You Die:

  1. Visit Australia
  2. Learn to play guitar

One Confession:

  1. We’ve lived in this house for almost two months and there are still unpacked boxes in the living room, the library, our bedroom, the hall closet, the guest room, and the garage. Those last two are especially bad, with probably half of the available space filled with boxes. Anyone want to come help us unpack?
  2. (There was originally something here about skipping school in 11th grade because I couldn’t think of anything better. Then the obvious confession smacked me in the face so I changed it.)

I love this! I really respect the fact that you are so honest and open about yourself in such a public way. I don’t think I could do it. Brave girl!

  2. Rhi says:

I’ve lived in my apartment since January and there are at least a dozen boxes in my guest room that aren’t unpacked. I’m moving into my very own condo next month and I’m starting to think I should just make a quick pass through those boxes for keepsakes and donate the rest. Cause, clearly? I haven’t needed them!

  3. Bex says:

You know… At least I’m not the only strange one. I can’t stand to have polish on my fingernails (I end up obsessively chipping it off) and I can’t stand to *not* have polish on my toenails (all year ’round — gotta have purple or pink nails) :-) We’re silly.

I really need to check out she&him. I’ve been hearing a lot about that group lately…

  4. citystreams says:

That’s a long meme! I think I might steal the first part and write ten things I’d like to say to people. I needed an idea for tonight anyway :o)

  5. Jummy says:

I love getting to know more about you!

For some reason I’ve been wanting to visit Australia for years now. Any chance Troy could be posted there? :)
I’ve heard there are many similarities between Oz and Canada…

(At first I was captivated by Gumball that I forgot why I was looking at the picture—that’s a pretty ring!)

  6. ~moe~ says:

I think you’re even cooler now than I did before. We are very similar…it’s almost scary. :) And I’d love to sit and have coffee with you, if you’ll be so nice as to let me smell yours while I drink water instead. I love the smell, but that’s the limit. :)

  7. bethany says:

heh, I’m exactly the same about nail/toe polish too. thought i was the only one! i almost get claustrophobic feeling with it on my nails, go figure. cheers :)

  8. Ashley says:

That’s a great post, I completely agree with you on having a great discussion amongst a disagreement. It’s a great way to learn who someone is! Oh and hot pink toes are awesome, hot pink finger nails are for 10 year olds – I’m with ya on that one too!

  9. Anna says:

What a great post! I love how candid and honest you are and I feel like I know you so much better.
You are so awesome, I totally would not be unpacked either…ha, ha. It has been almost two years for us in this house and I still have this corner in the basement we just won’t talk about;)

  10. kc says:

your ‘how to win my heart’ are so ME. especially the part about keep inviting me! hehe.

  11. Bobbie says:

i live in australia.. you can visit me anytime =)

  12. K says:

I agree with the no fingernail polish (unless it’s clear but it still usually drives me nuts once it starts to chip) and always nail polish on the toes. :)
Also, I felt the same way about spongebob.

  13. jastereo says:

Good stuff, I have to know about the skipping in 11th grade one time… you rebel you!

  14. jastereo says:

Oh, and I know that #7 in the very top list is totally directed at me…

  15. Deborah says:

I knew about #5 in the nines section – which is why this blogsite still amazes/surprises me. I LOVE reading what’s up in your world because I miss you guys and this helps me feel connected to you…so, thank you for stepping out of your “introverted extravert” world of being a homebody -it takes one to know one. ;*) …oh yeah, and I completely agree with you and Annalie – Barbie stinks…seriously – she smells like yucky plastic. I recall one Christmas, my sister and I traded our neighbors a Barbie Dream House for strap-on roller skates when we were ~5 & 6. When our parents found out, we lost the skates. :(

  16. LaurenC says:

    Two Things…#1!!!
Definately. We have a pretty rockin’ country down here and I am dying to show you around at least my little part of it someday.

I’m so glad you blog…I love hearing what you are up to.

  17. karen says:

I think I’ve read this post six times – it feels like opening a Christmas stocking full of little info gems. Some items make me want to know more about you and others support things I already know. Both make me smile and wish we could have coffee together!

  18. I think it’s so cool you have always wanted to play guitar. I have always wanted to learn to play piano. Hey… if Beethoven could do it… why not I? Maybe someday, I’ll be brave enough to pursue lessons.

Loved reading and learning more about you.

One of my confessions is that, during a game of monopoly when I was losing horribly, I drew the card that said I had to pay all the people with hotels on their property. There were a LOT. I looked around at everyone in panic, and ATE the card. My best friend sat on me while her boyfriend fished the card out of my mouth. I was in high school. Good times.

  20. ~moe~ says:

So tell me something, Bethany. Since you’ve written this post have you had people comment to you somehow about the top ten things you wish you could say? I have and it was a little odd. A friend commented to me and what’s funny is I wasn’t thinking about her when I typed the one she referenced. I feel like she went back to my blog to try to figure out which one was about her, and none of them are! Not sure how to handle this one…

  21. [...] really know, will I?) It’s a meme-type thing that I stole from citystreams(who stole it from Bethany Actually). They’re both really great bloggers, so you should mosey on over to read theirs, too. [...]

  22. Bowling Kids says:

Just found this via google, been reading a few articles and really like your blog…

More articles on bowling would be ideal, but we can’t all be perfect =P

Keep up the good work =P, I’ll try to keep checking back…

  23. If you are really interested in playing guitar, feel free to email me. I can set up online :D
