my mom’s tuna salad

March 21st, 2009

My mom adds so many veggies to her tuna salad, it ends up being crunchy rather than mushy like many tuna salads. I especially like to eat it scooped up with crackers, topped with slices of avocado if I can get it.

Debbie’s Crunchy Tuna Salad

  • 5-oz chunk light water-packed tuna
  • 2-3 Tbsp Miracle Whip
  • 1-2 tsp prepared mustard
  • 1 Tbsp sweet pickle relish
  • 1 kosher dill pickle, finely diced
  • 1 stalk celery, washed and trimmed, finely diced
  • 1/4 cup (approx) chopped onion (green red, yellow…your choice)
  • boiled egg, peeled and chopped

Drain the tuna, reserving the water for your favorite cat or dog. Dump the tuna in a bowl and add the remaining ingredients, stirring till mixed. If you want to add a bit more Miracle Whip or mustard or even a splash of pickle juice, go right ahead. Serve with crackers, or spread generously on bread or toast.

I like to add a little chopped black olive in it too!

I love tuna salad! This is how I make mine too…sometimes I even like to add a little chopped apple. Sounds weird, but it’s pretty good and adds even more crunch!

I used to love tuna salad. And then, when I was preggo with Monster, the smell of it made me so sick…and still does. I can get by eating it sometimes if I don’t have to make it and I can’t smell it really.

I never thought to reserve the tuna water for my dog. I bet she’d love that.

I made this! I made some additions/subtractions according to what I had on hand – but it turned out to be so good. I always add the spice Beau Monde to my tuna salad, and it was a fantastic addition to this.
