New house!
June 27th, 2008
To all of you who commented or emailed something along the lines of, “Woohoo, you got a house! I was thinking of you/praying for you/hoping you’d gotten one by now,” thank you so very much! I haven’t had great access to the internet and haven’t been able to respond individually like I want to, but please know we appreciate all of those prayers and thoughts and good wishes.
We are quite pleased with the house we have rented. The owners are kind and conscientious. The house itself is larger than what we expected to get for our money, and it’s in excellent repair. We are looking forward to the arrival of the moving truck so we can start to arrange furniture and unpack and make it our home.
But the best—and funniest—thing about this house is its location. It happens to be in the same neighborhood we lived in a decade ago, just a few blocks from our old house. So we already know all the good restaurants, where the library is, the best route to get downtown. We looked at houses all over the city and just lucked into a great house in an area we already knew and loved.
There are more photos than you could possibly want to see in the set New house! on Flickr. You can view this set as a slideshow, which is kinda cool. Just be sure to click on the “Options” link down in the bottom right and check the box for ‘Always show title and description’ if you want to read my explanations.

Let me be the first to say that your house looks awesome! I am amazed at what a great deal you got. Good luck with the move today.
The house looks great…..I can just see Annalie running all around inside. It’s nice to be back in a location that you know and like. Good luck with the unpacking and organizing. I hope it all goes smoothly.
I’m so happy for you all!! Congratulations again!! I doubt we’ll ever be sent to California but you never know. :)
Congratulations!! Yea for the new house! I hope that your belongings will arrive soon, so you can start to settle in and feel “at home”.
We’ll be right over! Just kidding, we’ll let you unpack a few boxes first. But we can’t wait to visit!
That’s a seriously cool house – I’m so glad you found it! Have fun unpacking!
Bethany I am so happy for you! The view looks fab and that big room is so huge! I love the window behind Troy. I am so glad you found something.
Congratulations! It’s beautiful & I love the agapanthus along the side of the house… I wish it grew here, but we get frosts in the winter.
It’s adorable! Congratulations!
I’m so jealous of the lemon & lime trees! Only in California…
The house is wonderful! It looks so clean and well-taken care of. I love that big room upstairs. How cool!
Beautiful. It totally looks huge. What a blessing!
That is a great house. Send some of whatever you did my way. I hate house hunting.
I love the new house! It’s spacious and and they yard is so tidy. I’m working on my husband to plant me a lemon tree! I would love to go outside and pick my own lemons for fresh lemonade. That’s something I used to do with my grandmother in the summers…
Congratulations!
Hip Hip Hoooray!!! I love those window. It looks fabulous. And it is wonderful that you already know the area. Yay!!
Love the new house! I hope we actually get to visit you at this one sometime!
What a serendipitous find! Looks like a fabulous house!
What wonderful news about a house. It looks beautiful.
Looks like a great place! I’m jealous of your lemon tree. My mom had one in her yard in Arizona for a few years but she eventually got sick of having to water it all the time and got rid of it. She used to ship me a box of lemons for my birthday each year – they were the size of baseballs and SO good.
This is fabulous! I love it! Congratulations!
congrats on the new digs! It looks like Annalie already likes it!
It looks like you have days upon days of homemade lemonade ahead of you.
The house is GANORMOUS!
WOW!
I *love* the windows in the living room! Very cute house! Now to unpacking boxes, huh!?
Oh Bethany, it’s amazing!
Congrats!
