Plenty of hooking going on
March 3rd, 2008
I like to crochet on long drives. It gives me something to do with my hands so I am not snacking endlessly, and I can chat with Troy and Annalie at the same time. As talented as I am, I have not yet figured out a way of reading a book and having a conversation simultaneously.
On our recent road trips, I had plenty of yarn to keep me busy. Brenda asked if I would be able to crochet her some headbands, so I did.
With the leftover green suede yarn, I made a hat.
Then with the leftover rust-colored Homespun, I made this hat and another one that’s nearly identical.
I like making these kind of hats. Too bad I don’t like wearing them. But I am sure SAJ is happy about that, because now she owns the green one. As for the two rusty ones, well, that’s why I have an Etsy shop, right?
I also made myself a scarf, because it was freaking cold in Omaha. I don’t have a photo of that, but I do have a photo of the flower scarf I made for the winner of the mystery bonus drawing a while back. Because the winner lives in faraway British Columbia, it took a while for the prize to arrive. But Angella received it a few weeks ago, so I can share it with you now.
I was starting to get tired of all the scarves and hats when I had the idea for a crocheted Easter basket. I decided to just add one zigzag (thanks for helping me decide!) to the first one. I liked it so much I made another one. They’re both in my Etsy shop too.
I’m really happy with how all these things have turned out. I think I am getting rather addicted to crocheting smallish things instead of the blankets I usually make. It’s nice to finish something in a few hours instead of a few weeks or months.

I just ordered the brown hat! I love it!!!
And here I thought California drivers were bad talking and texting and drinking their Starbucks while driving!
Hahaha! Yeah, crocheters are a menace on the highway…
To clarify, my husband was driving. I was riding shotgun.
I adore the easter baskets. They are so bright and cheerful! Such great work!
I love the green and blue circular one!!!!! SO cool! Why do you do this to me?!!!
Those look great, I love the baskets! How cute are they for Easter egg hunting?!
You are the most CREATIVE PERSON EVER!
My friend Karen is totally in love with the scarf you sent me. :)
I love the baskets – the zig zag one is perfect for Miss Emily…so I bought it!!
xoxo
Ooooo I am in love, you are amazing!!!
I wanna be like you!
Yet another reason to be completely jealous of Angella!
Ya know, I thought your crochet basket looked perfect the way it was without the zig zag, until you added the zig zag…now it looks even more perfect! :) Way to go!
yep, zig zag was a great decision! I love all your hats and scarves…you have inspired me to learn how to crochet more than just a “very basic” baby blanket and a “very basic” scarf…lol…and yes, I too have PLENTY of yarn to practice with!!
Oh my goodness! I’m in crochet awe! I love how you can sit down for a few hours and whip out an Easter basket! Amazing!
Personally, I’ve never attempted crochet but I’m pretty confident that my stuff would not look like this. You’re quite talented.
I love, love, love the flower scarf! Everything you made is just wonderful.
I love, love, love the flower scarf! Would you make one for me? I would love to buy one in your Etsy Store as a custom item? {I didn’t see one posted.}
I think you have something special with that flower scarf. Amazing!!
Love the easter baskets. My kids are big enough that now THEY hid the eggs, but they still want a basket. OOO, how about a bowl for the table? A basket without handles?
You are so talented! I love the easter basket, it’s adorable. And the hats, headbands and scarf are all great. I like hats like that, but I would probably not have as many months to wear them now that I live in the desert!
I love the hats, especially the green one. It looks so cute on you: how can you not be a hat person?!
Holy crow, why am I not getting my comments emailed to me? This is very annoying.
Oh my goodness, I am so in love with that scarf you sent Angella (like she already told you). I just might steal, I mean borrow it for a really long time from her, but I’m pretty sure she won’t let it go. Is it in your etsy shop? I’ll have to go look and Ange and I can be twins!
You are super talented!
I love the Easter baskets but my girls are getting a little too old unfortunately. I am racking my brain for someone I could buy it for.
I love everything you have made. Great job.
You are so talented! Everything here is so beautiful!
Great job! I like everything. My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was a little girl, I haven’t done it in a long time. I might have to try a headband.
So very talented.
I’d say it wasn’t fair, but I’m not so foolish as to think we all get to be hookers.
I mean…er … crocheters.
Some days I wish you would blog more. It breaks up the monotony. It gives me something to look forward to every day :-)
What a treat! I just got home from the beach to find TWO Bethany posts!
Anyway, is it Lion Brand Homespun you use? That’s a lovely color – but do you find it kind of hard to work with ever? I made a pair of ponchos for some little girls I know and it was kind of a pain!
Also – what’s the brand name of the suede? I a napkin ring “recipe” that calls for suede and I love the green color.
I love the hats! I’ve always wanted a hat like the one Reese Witherspoon wears in Legally Blond. The purple one with the crocheted flower on the side. It looks like the green one here but with a flower too. You need to make a couple of those!
You need to make some more headbands, I would totally buy some of those. Maybe even a hat although I’m not much of a hat person either but it might look a little nicer than my coca-cola baseball cap!

They are all gorgeous. You have such talent. I have a new found love of knitting, but the little blanket I am trying to do is taking forever, I prefer the smaller jobs.
