As my Grandpa Adams used to say, the nut don’t fall far from the tree
January 25th, 2009
Tonight as I was walking through my bedroom, I tried to step over a laundry basket, lost my balance, and felt my left ankle twisting. That’s my bad ankle, the one I badly sprained in 2001, and I automatically protect it when it starts to twist by switching my weight to my other leg. Only in this case my other leg was already off the ground.
I am talented in many areas, but levitation is not one of them. I went down, landing square on the edge of the laundry basket—one of the hard plastic ones, not the bendy rubbery kind—breaking the handle and smacking the inside of my knee on the other edge.
That all happened in the span of about 0.47 seconds, before Troy had a chance to do anything more than gape as I went down. He asked if I was okay, and luckily I was. I don’t know if I’ll even have any bruises, and the laundry basket is still useable.
We laughed about my eternal klutziness, and Troy pointed out that we obviously know where Annalie gets it. I suppose we do at that.
All I know is that first the litterbox and the trash can were out to get me, and now it’s the laundry basket. I sense a conspiracy.
Maybe I should avoid doing housework for a while. It seems like it really IS hazardous to my health.

Loving your new dottery blog header.
1. I’m glad you;re okay.
2. Love the new banner.
Hee hee! I’m glad you weren’t hurt. Sounds scary. The dottery banner is just too cute for words. And I love the new caption “blogging against my better judgement.” Fun!
That is SO me. My family has often remarked upon the hilarity of the fact that I was a competitive gymnast for years, and yet somehow still manage to trip up stairs…or over nothing at all. :)
10.0! Good form! I’m glad both you and the basket survived and agree that it sounds like time for a housework vacation. :)
I am one of the clumsiest people I know. Let’s try not to take each other out next weekend, hey?
i’m the same way. so clumsy, i’ll trip and fall over absolutely nothing. walk into walls or desks, coffee tables are the bane of my existence. (i don’t have one, thank goodness.) but when i hit the dance floor, i’m all grace. totally weird. :)
Wheee! A get out of Houswork free card! Awesome plan.
Oh my goodness. I am so glad you’re alright. I definitely have the klutz gene. More so it’s the type of klutziness wherein I get hurt in the most ridiculous ways.
The new header is sublime.
I’ve been using my fall last weekend to avoid the housework! But I’m glad you’re okay! It’s always a little rattling for a moment when gravity takes you down against your will!
My husband seems to carry the clumsy gene. Lucky me he passed it down to my oldest daughter. Almost every week I get a call from the school nurse letting me know Emily somehow got hurt while she was either playing, helping or minding her own business.
Thursday was the most recent call. I asked how many times she’s called me this school year and she laughed and said “A lot.”
Laundry baskets are so tricky! They pretend to be peaceful, helpful, friendly little guys, and then BOOM! they shake your baby right out of them or make you trip into them. Laundry baskets… UP TO NO GOOD!
(Love the dotty banner, BTW!)
Like mother, like daughter :-) Thank goodness you weren’t injured or bruised.
Your new dottery banner looks so spring-y! Today feels like a spring day. I wanted to plant gorgeous annuals in our planter then J reminded me that it’s still January and we’re likely to have more cold snaps… *sigh*
Sounds like something I would do! I like the new dots banner at the top!
Oh dear! Don’t worry you’re not alone – I’m extremely clumsy too. The new banner is fab!
Oh no. Ouch! I’m clumsy too. I don’t take falls as much as bump into things. I joke that I think I’m smaller than I actually am.
