Watercolor conversation

April 17th, 2008

"A sunny painting, by Annalie!"

Annalie set her paintbrush down and announced, “There. It’s done!”

“I really like that bottom part, with all the different colors of green,” I told her. “What else is in this picture? Can you tell me about it?”

“Suuuure!” Annalie pointed to various parts of the painting and told me this was grass, this was the sky, these were trees “covered with beautiful blossoms,” that was a pond. I asked her what the picture was called. “A sunny painting, by Annalie!”

“That’s a good name. Where is the sun?” I asked, thinking it was just one of the items she hadn’t pointed to.

Annalie slapped her hand to her forehead. “I forgot to put it in! Wait, there’s the perfect spot.” She grabbed her paintbrush, swirled it in the yellow, and quickly added the sun.

Great picture!!! And she was open to suggestions and ready to admit that she left something out.

I love your conversations with Annalie.
They always make my heart smile, and sometimes it giggles too.

Watercolours….oh how I love them. I want to paint with the carefree abandon of a child again without thinking what I have done ‘wrong’.

Prints of her artwork would make excellent blank notecards.
